The actual event

It’s a party with clipboards

Nobody stands at a podium. There is no gavel. People mix, mingle and make bids for their ultimate prizes. But watch out! Don’t let someone outbid you. The competition is real.

A guest leaning over the clipboards, reading a bid sheet. Three guests in a selfie, one wearing a rhinestone crown. Guests browsing a long table of auction lots. The King of the Krewe laughing with two guests in a garden. Two guests in hats seated at an auction table. Two guests in curly wigs and bright shirts, laughing. The auction room filling up, guests moving between tables. Three guests in crowns and costume in a brick courtyard. A Krewe member in purple laughing with his arm around a friend. Four Krewe volunteers in purple shirts, grinning.
A row of designer heels, each pair with its own bid sheet. Hand-made silver pendants above a Krewe bid sheet. A couple seated outdoors at the auction, smiling. A cooler packed with bottles and snacks as a lot. Four guests posing together at the auction. A basket of Dolly Parton cake mixes and disco balls. Krewe members in sashes gathered in a doorway. Silver and turquoise earrings in a jewellery box. The Queen in a crown beside a guest. Baskets on a dressed round table with bid sheets.

How you win

The whole game fits on one clipboard

Every lot has a sheet. The sheet is public. That is the entire drama.

Find the thing

Walk the tables. Each lot lists what it is, what it is worth, and where bidding starts.

Write a bigger number

Your name, then a number above the line before yours. Now everyone can see you want it.

Guard it

Come back. Check the sheet. Somebody will try you late. The last name wins.

Previous years

What people fought over

The tables change completely from one year to the next, so nothing here is coming back. Somebody won all of these.

A row of designer heels on a sideboard, each pair with its own clipboard bid sheet.

A wall of heels

Somebody walked out in these. It could have been you.

Hand-made silver pendants from Moonsong Creations displayed above a Mystic Krewe bid sheet.

Silver by hand

Made by a Memphis silversmith, and there was only one.

A purple hard cooler packed with bottles of liquor, mixers and snacks as an auction lot.

A cooler you keep

Loaded, and heavier than it looks.

A basket of Dolly Parton cake mixes, frosting and small mirrored disco balls.

The Dolly basket

Cake mixes, bundt pans, and disco balls.

Past tables have also held theatre passes for Opera Memphis, Theatre Memphis and Playhouse on the Square, a Robert Irwin watch, Botanic Garden passes, a spa retreat in Hot Springs, and seven nights in Puerto Vallarta.

Why we do it

Party for a cause

$500,000

Raised for MidSouth charities since 2003, near as makes no difference. Every dollar from this auction goes to the Tennessee Equality Project, who defend the civil rights of LGBTQ+ Tennesseans across the state.

We hand the money over in public, because that is the point.

Krewe members in crowns and purple hold an oversized donation check on a lawn while a charity staff member speaks.
